Hatha Yoga
What it it?
This form of yoga can trace its origins back to India thousands of years ago. ‘Hatha’ means union which in a typical hatha yoga class refers to combining the movement of physical yoga poses (asanas) with the breath (pranayama) and the mind (mindfulness / meditation). Jo teaches a fun, deep and nourishing style of hatha yoga which draws upon both strength and flexibility.

Benefits?
The main benefits of Hatha yoga are improved mood, calmer nervous system, improved muscles strength and tone, improved flexibility, injury prevention, improved cardio and circulatory system, better sleep, better immunity, more self-compassion, supportiveness found from the connections made within the yoga community, spiritual growth.

Yin Yoga
What is it?
This form of yoga was developed around the 1980s drawing upon the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Yin is the slowest most mindful practise of yoga, with advanced practitioners holding a single pose for five minutes at a time! Yin is a relaxing and calming practise which works with the deep layers of fascia and connective tissues within the body.

Benefits?
The main benefits of Yin Yoga are increasing overall flexibility, releases stuck fascia and improves the range of motion of joints, increases circulation, calms the nervous system, reduces inflammation, balances the internal organs and promotes the flow of ‘chi’ or ‘prana’ which means illness or disease is less likely to occur.

Nidra Yoga
What is it?
Yoga Nidra can also be traced back thousand of years to India and like all forms of yoga, it has evolved over time. Yoga Nidra doesn’t involve any yoga poses or asanas. It is a form of ‘pratyahara’ or withdrawal of the senses in the form of guided meditations. The meditation can be done sitting up or lying down is structured in such a way that it activates different brain centres resulting in deep relaxation and consciousness.

Benefits?
Yoga Nidra can improve sleep, cognitive performance and memory, it calms stress and anxiety, reduces pain and some research shows it also reduces symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, all resulting in improved mood.
